Prior to a mandated moratorium on wood burning fireplaces
in California's Central Valley, Luginsland was able to incorporate two magnificent
masonry "stacks" and is "grandfathered" under a clause for
their use. One is in the formal Library and is an impressive stonecast replica
of a famous surround from a Chateau in Burgundy, which is currently in the Ritz
Carlton in Buckhead, Georgia. The actual firebox is Rumsford in design, and very
small blazes heat almost the entire house. The hearth is 3 inch thick Absolute
Black granite from a quarry in India.

The second fireplace is solid travertine and comes from
the works of Fachadas Y Monumentos in Monterrey, Mexico. This fireplace in the
Family Room matches the corresponding columns, the signature icon of the architect,
the late John Colm.
